Multigrade Teaching and Learning
Multigrade teaching (the teaching of more than one grade of pupils in one class by one teacher) is a feature of education systems the world over. It dates back to the origins of formal education, and it was not up until the late 1800s that the teaching of one grade in a classroom (monograde) at a time became prominent. Despite this development, multigrade teaching remains a reality and, for some learners, especially in developing countries, is the only way they can access education

The Western Cape Education Department’s role is to educate young learners in preparation for the world of work. The TIMMS, WCED Systemic results evidently demonstrate that the maths skills of learners in the Western Cape are constantly improving, but are below the required grade level for effective development of maths knowledge. The Mathematics Strategy has been implemented across all grades in 2021 to address the challennges on hand.

Learners and teachers will find the broadcasts as well as supporting documentation to guide NSC examination preparation on this page.
